Last Thursday we had our office holiday Christmas party. It was a wonderful night filled with festive food, drinks and even a bit of pool. While we gathered around catching up outside the office, I was reminded of the beauty of the holidays that can often be lost in the hustle and bustle. Although it is cliché, it is the simple celebrations of gathering with friends and family around the dinner table that make the holidays so meaningful, rather than material objects under the tree.
As we wrote about a couple of weeks ago, the holidays can be overwhelming given the added financial and emotional stress, but even though we are in the midst of the holiday season it’s not too late to slow it down.
I recently read a great book, Simplify by Bill Hybels, where the word simplify is defined as ‘uncluttering,” which doesn’t just mean throwing away physical possessions that clutter our closets, but also barriers that create chaos in all aspects of our lives, including our calendars and finances. (If you haven’t read the book, I would highly recommend it.)
We all have areas in our lives we can simplify, myself included. As we draw closer to ringing in 2016, my holiday wish for you is to think about other areas in your life that you can simplify in the New Year.
When we meet with clients for the first time, we find that they’ve often made the decision to meet with us because of the desire to simplify their lives. They have realized their schedules won’t allow them to do it all. They can’t work, spend time with their families, make time for themselves and focus on their finances. One quote I particularly like in the book is when Hybels speaks about the importance of recreation in one’s life saying, “Recreation means to re-create energy and vitality in your inner person.”
Our mission at Legacy is to help you have more time for the things that you love and less time worrying about your finances. We want you to be able to live free from financial stress. As Brenda mentioned in Lessons on Marriage and Money, “to be able to live free from financial stress makes life easier and freedom from financial stress is not about how much you have – it’s being able to sleep at night.”
From all of us at Legacy, we wish you and your family a wonderful and simple holiday season. As always, if there is any way that we can help you simplify your finances, schedule a complimentary consultation to meet with us today.
